Senior Adviser to the Supreme Leader, Ali Akbar Velayati, met on Friday 3/11/2017 with former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri after meeting with Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. A day after the meeting, Hariri presented his resignation during a visit to Saudi Arabia. In his statement, he fiercely attacked Iran saying, “The atmosphere in Lebanon today is similar to the one that prevailed before the assassination of my father Rafik Hariri, and I am afraid to be assassinated.” He added, “Iran’s evil in the region will also extend to affect the country itself, and Iran will be defeated for its interference in the Arab world affairs.”
Amad News quoting a source close to the Senior Adviser Ali Akbar Velayati revealed that at the end of the negotiations that took place between Velayati and Hariri and before he resigned in public، Velayati threatened al Hariri with a fate similar to his father’s if he did not follow the recommendations of Iran/Hezbollah and that there could be a riot in the region. He ordered Hariri during the meeting to publicly support Hezbollah. If he did not support Hezbollah, he would be assassinated.
The source also revealed that Hariri asked Velayati to make Iran leave the oppressed people of Yemen alone and improve its relations with the neighboring countries, but Velayati refused “because it opposed Iran’s expansionist project in the region.”
